The 28" Multi-Function Rear Facing Chase LED Light Bar can be wired two ways:
- Light bar only: basic functions (tail, brake, reverse, and amber) that you control with switches or your vehicle's lighting circuits.
9801 (Type 1): Red / Amber / White sections
9802 (Type 2, Race Only): Red / Amber / Blue sections. The 9802 is intended for off-road and race use only.
- Light bar + Rear Chase Light Control Module (sold separately): expanded functions, including 28 lighting modes such as strobes, sequences, arrows, and flash patterns.
KC® Rear Chase Light Control Module
The wires have different jobs in each setup, so follow only the section that matches your install.
Before You Start
- The light bar needs constant 12V power and ground on its red and black wires for any function to work. Sending power to a function wire alone will not turn anything on.
- Fuse every power connection at the battery: 15A for the light bar and 2A for the Control Module.
- Operating voltage is 10–18V DC.
- Insulate or cap any wire you are not using. Bare wire ends can short against the vehicle or each other.
- Test the bar before you install it (see "Bench Testing" below). It's much easier to confirm everything works before the wires are routed through the vehicle.
Option 1: Wiring the Light Bar Only (No Control Module)
Wire Colors and Functions (9801)
| Wire | Function | Connect to |
|---|---|---|
| Red | Main power, 12V (+) | Battery positive (+), fused 15A |
| Black | Ground (–) | Battery negative (–) |
| White | Center white lights (both) | 12V (+) switch or reverse circuit |
| Green | Amber lights (both) | 12V (+) switch |
| Blue | Right red brake (outer) | 12V (+) right brake or turn circuit |
| Yellow | Left red brake (outer) | 12V (+) left brake or turn circuit |
| Gray | Dim red tail (both outer) | 12V (+) tail or running light circuit |
| Brown | Flashing amber (both) | 12V (+) switch |
Note: If the Green and Brown wires are both powered at the same time, the Green (solid amber) function overrides Brown (flashing amber).
Installation Steps
- Connect the Red wire to the battery's positive (+) terminal through a 15A fuse.
- Connect the Black wire to the battery's negative (–) terminal.
- Connect each function wire you want to use to a 12V (+) source: a switch or a vehicle lighting circuit. When a function wire receives 12V, its function turns on.
- Insulate or cap any function wires you are not using.
Option 2: Wiring the Light Bar with the Rear Chase Light Control Module
With the Control Module, the light bar receives its commands from the module through the Green and White wires. The bar's other function wires (Blue, Yellow, Gray, and Brown) are not used. Instead, you control every lighting function from the module's function wires.
Light Bar Connections
| Light Bar Wire | Connect to |
|---|---|
| Red | Battery positive (+), fused 15A |
| Black | Battery negative (–) |
| Green | Control Module Green wire (A pin, Input 1) |
| White | Control Module White wire (B pin, Input 2) |
| Blue, Yellow, Gray, Brown | Not used. Insulate or cap each wire. |
Control Module Connections
| Control Module Wire | Connect to |
|---|---|
| Red (+) | Battery positive (+), fused 2A |
| Black (–) | Battery negative (–) |
| Green (A) | Light bar Green wire |
| White (B) | Light bar White wire |
| Pins 1–28 | Switches for the functions you want (see the function tables below) |
Installation Steps
- Mount the light bar using the included hardware.
- Mount the Control Module in a protected location (module is not waterproof).
- Plug a 16-pin wiring lead into the left port of the Control Module. This lead carries power, ground, the A/B inputs, and functions 1–12. To use functions 13–28, plug the second 16-pin lead into the right port.
- Connect the Red and Black wires of both the light bar and the Control Module to the battery, using a 15A fuse for the bar and a 2A fuse for the module.
- Connect the light bar's Green wire to the module's Green (A) wire, and the light bar's White wire to the module's White (B) wire.
- Insulate or cap the light bar's unused Blue, Yellow, Gray, and Brown wires.
- Wire the module's function pins to switches for the functions you want, using the tables below.
Light Bar Sections
The bar is divided into six sections, numbered 1 through 6 from the driver side to the passenger side. The function tables show which sections each function lights.
- Sections 1 & 6: Red (tail and brake)
- Sections 2 & 5: Amber
- Sections 3 & 4: White on the 9801, Blue on the 9802
Control Module Functions 1–12 (Left Port)
| Pin | Sections | Function |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 & 6 | Tail lights, constant (dim) |
| 2 | 3 & 4 | White (reverse) / Blue (race), constant |
| 3 | 2 & 5 | Amber, constant |
| 4 | 2 & 5 | Amber, alternating |
| 5 | 1 | Tail light (driver), constant |
| 6 | 3 | White (reverse) / Blue (race), constant |
| 7 | 4 | White (reverse), constant |
| 8 | 6 | Tail light (passenger), constant |

* Use the Flash Pattern button on the Control Module to choose the pattern.
** Use the Flash Pattern button on the Control Module to change the arrow speed.
Bench Testing Before Installation
Test the bar's functions on the bench before you wire it into the vehicle.
- Connect the light bar's Red wire to the battery's positive (+) terminal through a fuse, and its Black wire to the negative (–) terminal. If you're testing with the Control Module, connect its Red and Black wires the same way, plus the Green-to-Green and White-to-White connections.
- Touch one function wire (light bar only) or one module function wire at a time to a fused 12V (+) source.
- Confirm that each function matches the tables above.
Troubleshooting
If the bar or a function isn't working, check the following in order:
- Fuses: check the 15A fuse (light bar) and the 2A fuse (Control Module).
- Main power and ground: use a multimeter to confirm 12V on the light bar's Red wire, and on the module's Red wire if you have one. Confirm that each Black wire has a clean, tight connection to the battery's negative terminal. A poor ground is one of the most common causes of problems.
- Correct wiring for your setup: make sure you followed the right section of this guide. With the Control Module, the bar's Green and White wires must go to the module's Green (A) and White (B) wires, not to switches.
- A/B connections (Control Module only): check that the Green-to-Green and White-to-White connections are secure and not reversed.
- Unused wires: make sure all unused wires are insulated and not touching the vehicle or each other.
- Function wires: use a multimeter to confirm that the function wire receives 12V when its switch or circuit is turned on.
- 16-pin leads (Control Module only): make sure each lead is fully seated and in the correct port (left for 1–12, right for 13–28).
