Disclaimer: While we provide these instructions as a general guideline, we strongly recommend consulting a qualified automotive electrician for any custom wiring installation. Electrical work on vehicles carries inherent risks, including potential fire hazards, and should be handled with expertise.
Procedure:
- Amperage Compatibility:
- Before starting, ensure the combined amperage (AMPs) rating of your Apollo Pro lights, factoring in a 75% heat safety margin, doesn't exceed the capacity of your auxiliary switch system. This prevents overheating and potential damage.
- Quick Calculation: (Total wattage of lights / 12V) / 0.75 = Required fuse amperage. Choose the next highest standard fuse size for protection.
- Harness Modification:
- Identify the wires leading from the harness to the back of the Apollo Pro lights.
- Carefully cut and remove the existing switch, relay, and fuse harness, leaving only the long leads connected to the lights.
- Wire Identification:
- You'll now have two red (positive) and two black (ground) wires, each pair connected to a single light, with plugs for easy connection.
- Wire Splicing:
- Securely join the two red wires together using an appropriately sized butt connector and a new lead to create a "Y" connection, or utilize a ring/fork terminal as needed for your AUX system.
- Repeat the same process for the two black wires.
- Insulate all connections with heat shrink tubing or electrical tape, leaving only the necessary contact points exposed.
- Important: Avoid using wire nuts. Stick to automotive-grade components for reliability and safety.
- AUX Switch Connection:
- Connect the combined red wires to the designated LOAD output circuit of your AUX system. Refer to your specific AUX system's instructions for precise connection details.
- Grounding:
- Connect the combined black wires to either:
- The negative terminal of your vehicle's battery
- The negative output connection of your AUX system (if available)
By following these steps and taking necessary precautions, you can safely and effectively integrate your Apollo Pro lights with your vehicle's auxiliary switch system. If you have any doubts or concerns, consult an automotive electrician for professional assistance.
