Choosing the Right KC HiLiTES Wiring Kit for Your Lights

KC HiLiTES designs wiring kits specifically for its lighting systems to ensure safe operation, proper power delivery, and simplified installation. Each harness is engineered to handle the electrical requirements of the lights it is intended to support. Using the correct wiring kit helps prevent electrical issues and ensures your lights perform at their full potential.

KC HiLiTES Wiring Harness Compatibility

Most KC HiLiTES lighting kits include a wiring harness designed for the specific lights in that system. These harnesses are built with the correct wire gauge, relay, fuse, and connectors to safely handle the amperage required by the lights.

When selecting a harness, the most important factor is connector type.

KC HiLiTES commonly uses:

• 2-Pin Deutsch Connectors:  Typically used for standard on/off lighting functions.
• 3-Pin Deutsch Connectors:  Used on lights that support additional features such as backlighting or independent lighting modes.

Because these connectors differ, it’s important to match the harness to the light model you are installing.

Relay Usage in KC Wiring Harnesses

Most KC HiLiTES wiring harnesses include a relay, which allows the lights to draw power directly from the vehicle battery while using the switch to control the relay. This protects the vehicle’s switch circuit and ensures the lights receive consistent power.

In most installations, the relay should remain part of the wiring system.

The main exception is when installing lights through a switch panel or power management system that already includes built-in relays or circuit protection. In those cases, the harness relay may not be necessary depending on the switch panel’s design.

Always verify the capabilities of your switch panel before removing or bypassing a relay.

Choosing the Correct Harness

To select the right wiring kit:

1. Match the harness to the KC light model whenever possible.
2. Confirm the connector type (2-pin or 3-pin Deutsch).
3. Use the included relay unless your switch panel already provides relay protection.

Using the proper harness ensures the wiring is capable of handling the electrical load of the lights while maintaining a safe and reliable installation.
